New Market Collection for ANN SACKS® Marries Glass with Fresh Produce

In a merging of the natural and artistic worlds that is nothing short of extraordinary, ANN SACKS and renowned glass artist, Tony Davlin has created a wholly new form of tile composed of tissue-thin slices of real fruits and vegetables preserved between layers of glass. Entitled Market, this inspired collection offers vivid, colorful tiles that will define their environment and offer an inimitable look and feel to any residential or commercial space.

From the fertile imagination of Boston-based artisan Tony Davlin, Market is created using the same ancient Egyptian techniques that produced the earliest forms of the paper known as papyrus many thousands of years ago. Thin slices of a specific fruit or vegetable are cut with a special mandolin, pressed, dried and then meticulously arranged over a white backing to give the tile a luminous opacity. The finished product blooms with bright overlapping layers that imbue any setting with a beautifully buoyant, almost magical atmosphere.

Market collection consists of tiles composed of the following: tomato, pear, carrot, gourd, citrus and cucumber. The tiles are available in 8-¼” x 17” tiles, but can be created in any size for custom installations. They are suitable for dry indoor vertical applications only.

ANN SACKS has partnered with Davlin in the past, using his inventive techniques and novel ideas to create Davlin glass, a collection of tiles that feature European gold leaf fused between pieces of hand-crafted glass.
