ANN SACKS® expands naturally with Mesquite Knot PORTLAND, Ore. (April 11, 2008) – ANN SACKS, premier manufacturer and distributor of luxury tile, stone and plumbing products, introduced its latest wood tile, Mesquite Knot, at the 2008 Kitchen/Bath Industry Show in Chicago. Crafted entirely from Texan mesquite wood, Mesquite Knot brings the beauty of the outdoors into residential and commercial installations, its presentation a stunning, random patterning achieved by cutting the tree on its radius, revealing the tree’s rings and natural irregularities. Harvested from an aggressive shrub, Mesquite Knot is a renewable resource. Mesquite is considered the most stable of all hardwoods, with strength of character and an organic beauty that make it a prized addition to ANN SACKS’ unique tile and stone collections. “The fabrication was a challenge for ANN SACKS due to the extreme hardness and density of the wood,” said John Hart, chief merchandising officer, ANN SACKS and Kallista. “These were also the same qualities that made it extremely coveted. To take the wood from its raw state and bring it up to ANN SACKS’ exacting standards was something we strived hard to accomplish.” Through this proprietary process to secure, cut and finish the material to precise requirements, ANN SACKS was able to harness the wood’s natural beauty and sustainable qualities for a tile resplendent with natural warmth and character. Mesquite Knot has a smooth, honed finish reflecting the beauty and shading of the wood’s brown colorations. A natural Tung oil is hand-rubbed into the wood, and incorporates an optional UV block to avoid discoloration and help retain its warm brown tones. Once finished, the mesquite is fabricated into varying length planks made from smaller knot tiles. The planks are grooved for easy installation and suitable for wall or floor applications. Although recommended for indoor application, and working especially well with radiant heat, Mesquite Knot can be used in covered outdoor areas that enjoy moderate climates. Founded in 1981, ANN SACKS has built its reputation with inspiring designs in tile, stone, plumbing, lighting and accessories. Based in Portland, Ore., the company is a division of the Kohler Co.
