Antique Terra Cotta

Antique Terra Cotta is shipped in the same condition in which it was reclaimed.  Intense cleaning is a likely necessity before installation. Mold may be present upon receipt of material.  If so, clean with a solution of vinegar and water.  It is important to allow the terra cotta to dry completely for approximately 1 week before sealing.

Variation in size and thickness will occur from lot to lot, shipment to shipment and tile to tile.  Dry lay the material prior to installation to allow for variation and color blending. When ordering, order 10% to 15% extra to ensure you will have enough material from one lot.  There are no guarantees that the next lot will blend with your current lot. Original mortar may be present on the backside of the tile.

Countertop Surfaces

Clean up spills immediately using only mild detergent and warm water to clean. Never use acidic or abrasive cleaners. Consider products that seal and restore marble and stone.

Decorative Surfaces

The cleaning method for special or decorative finishes will be unique for each product. Specific care and maintenance information is available for specialty materials and must be followed to ensure long-lasting beauty. It is typically recommended to stay away from abrasive cleaners and to only use chemical cleaners as recommended.

Glass Sinks

Do not use bristle brushes or abrasive sponges as they will scratch some glass surfaces. Never use abrasive cleaners and do not let cleaners sit or soak on surfaces. Rinse and wipe fixtures after cleaning to prevent soap buildup.

For best results, keep the following in mind when caring for your Ann Sacks plumbing product:

Always test your cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area before applying to the entire surface. Wipe surfaces clean immediately after applying cleaner and do not allow cleaners to sit or soak. Rinse the product completely with water after applying solution using a soft, dampened sponge or cloth. Never use an abrasive material such as a brush or scouring pad to clean surfaces.

Routine maintenance for stone includes sweeping or vacuuming to remove dirt, similar to wood floors or carpet. Reseal your stone when necessary - when water no longer beads on surface of the stone. Resealing frequency will depend on traffic and use. Stone, like any other natural product, will age and patina adding to it’s beauty and character.

Sealing stone is strongly suggested, as it will create a barrier between the stone and dirt and stains. Even if a sealer is used, this is not going to make the stone bullet proof and totally resistant to stains. Any staining agent that comes into contact with the stone should be removed immediately. Sealant and cleaner should be included on every stone order. We sell the Miracle Sealant Company products because they are widely considered the best available.

Sealant is easy to apply. Use a sponge brush, paint brush, or roller to spread it evenly over the surface of the stone. Traffic and use will effect the need to reseal a surface but resealing annually is a safe time frame.

Ann Sacks recommends the following sealers:

Porous Plus makes very porous surfaces more resistant to stains, hardens the surface and increases the static coefficient of friction while retaining the surfaces natural look. Recommended for use on Mexican pavers, terra cotta, limestone, honed stone, flamed stone, adoquin, brick, concrete, cement grout and other very porous surfaces. Can be used in both interior and exterior applications.

Mira Matte is designed to enhance the natural color and texture of honed, flamed, split face and textured natural stone. This product enhances the natural color while leaving the stone with a beautiful matte finish.
